Engaging and enlightening, these workshops will provide attendees with knowledge of West African culture and provide them with tools to help educate other people on the benefits of reaching across the cultural isle.
Each interactive drumming lesson/group will be customized with the group’s specific needs as a priority and will provide the group with techniques and tips they will use – not only on their drums, however in their day-to-day lives and achievements.
An educational and hands on opportunity for school aged children to learn about West African heritage and Afro-Francophone culture through musical demonstration. Languages used in the program include: French, English and various West African languages.
The Teaching Approach
The process of teaching each song, dance and rhythm, is supported by stories of historical reference and humour that stimulate the interest in the rich West African Francophone cultures. The rhythms are taught accompanied by songs, dances and stories. The program includes ancient traditional rhythms as well as contemporary original compositions created by Mr. Amara Kanté. The goal of the Kouraba Foli program in schools is to consistently engage students physically & mentally, build confidence and instill a respectful attitude through drumming and the performing arts.
