About the Festival
The idea for the “Kouraba World Music Festival” was first conceived in 2011 by world renowned Malinké, Master Percussionist/Artistic Director, Mr. Amara Kante and the multi-talented, Nigerian born Canadian Artist/Producer, Ms. Rachael Eluan Abah. This musical spectacle is a showcase of world music & dance innovation, homage to Master artists, a celebration of traditional art forms and an incubator for cross-cultural dialogue. The “Kouraba World Music Festival” brings together and promotes music from across cultures to present a unified voice to an often divided audience.
Kouraba 2016 Flé!: Watch!
The theme in 2015 was “Yelema Dona Ko La: Things Have Changed”. This year the 4th Annual Kouraba World Music festival brings you, "FLÉ! : WATCH!”. In the Malinke language (West Africa) the word “Yelema” means, change/transformation and “Flé”, means watch/witness. Kouraba invites you to experience a new paradigm in world music.
This 4th Edition of the Kouraba World Music Festival will feature international musical Masters and Apprentices of the World Music genre: Amara Kanté (Ivory Coast & Republic of Guinea), Ravi Naimpally (India), Abdoulaye Traore (Burkina Faso), Mohamed Diaby (Mali), Odel Johnson(Jamaica), Aline Morales (Brazil), Bruce Skerritt (St. Kitts) to name a few.
