The Teaching Approach

An​ ​educational and hands on opportunity for school aged children to learn about West African heritage through musical demonstration. The process of teaching each song, dance and rhythm, is supported by stories of historical reference and humour that stimulate the interest in the rich West African Francophone cultures. The rhythms are taught accompanied by traditional song​s, dance​s and stories. Some of​ ​the rhythms are traditional and most are very old. The​ ​program also​​ ​include​s​ specific and original​ arrangements created by Mr. Amara Kanté.​ The goal of the Kouraba Foli program in schools is to consistently engage students physically & mentally, build confidence and instill a respectful attitude through drumming and the performing arts.
