The Teaching Approach

An educational and hands on opportunity for school aged children to learn about West African heritage through musical demonstration. The process of teaching each song, dance and rhythm, is supported by stories of historical reference and humour that stimulate the interest in the rich West African Francophone cultures. The rhythms are taught accompanied by traditional songs, dances and stories. Some of the rhythms are traditional and most are very old. The program also includes specific and original arrangements created by Mr. Amara Kanté. The goal of the Kouraba Foli program in schools is to consistently engage students physically & mentally, build confidence and instill a respectful attitude through drumming and the performing arts.

"TFS loved Amara's presentation! It was a great pleasure to have Amara with our Grades 6/7 students and staff. His message, one of respect, tolerance, peace and unity, was very well received by all and fits perfectly with our School's values. Amara has a very inviting, incredibly polite manner with students; he gains their interest quickly and engages them meaningfully and throughout the performance due to deep love for his roots, the traditions, and the songs and rhythms. We were very pleased to have Amara visit TFS. I hope that he enjoyed very much meeting our students."
